Treasure Chest Cupcakes

I have a very special creation for you today for {{Servin’ It Up Saturday}}.  I recently made these for a play group and they were a HIT!!  I hope your little ones enjoy these as much as mine!

june 017

Treasure Chest Cupcakes:

  • Box of cake mix
  • Paper cupcake liners
  • Vanilla or Buttercream Frosting (you can make your own or buy it)
  • Swedish Fish
  • Small candy to stuff into your treasure box (I used nerds & Sweetart mini chewy candies)
  • Blue food coloring
  • Yellow food coloring
  • Swiss Rolls

Make your cupcakes in paper liners and set aside.

Place your Swiss Rolls on a cutting board.

june 011

Slice Swiss Roll in half, but do not cut through completely.

While holding the Swiss Roll open, fill with small candies.

june 012

Set Swiss Rolls aside.

Mix 3/4 of your frosting with blue food coloring.  Frost the tops of all your cupcakes {{this gives it the look of water}}.

Place a Swiss Roll on your cupcake {towards the back side}.

june 013

Place two Swedish Fish on the front of the cupcake, in front of the Swiss Roll.

june 016

Use the rest of your frosting and color with yellow food coloring.  Place yellow frosting in a decorating bag & pipe on frosting {{two lines and a dot}} to make it look like a treasure chest.

june 017

Now you’re ready to serve!

These turned out SOOOO cute! I have seen them made as big cakes, but never cupcakes, that was a great job with the swiss cake rolls! Turned out so fun!
