Ice Cream Play date

Last time my sister and I were able to get together, we both came up with a fun play date for the kiddies.  Remember her post on her Monster Play Date

My play date centered around ice cream.  We started out by reading a great Curious George book about ice cream, or course! =)

The kiddies had fun reading the book!  {Did you notice the matching outfits? =)  They were all decked out for the 4th of July!}

After reading our book, it was time for our craft. Each kiddo made a quadruple stacked ice cream cone using glue and some tissue paper.

They had lots of fun painting their tissue paper scraps with the glue mixture.  Kids always love anything messy, right?

With our ice cream craft drying, we headed outside four our ice cream relay race.

Using their cone (brown cup), each kiddo had to race their ice cream (water balloon) to the other side of the patio.

The one who got all of their ice cream to the other side of the patio first was the winner.

**This idea looked better in my head…when did they start making water balloon that aren’t round when they’re filled up?!  We rolled with it anyway and the kids had fun.**

After the race, those participating got an ice cream medal.  {We lost one relay runner due to a temper tantrum!}

After the race, we headed to the kitchen for a well earned snack.  We had ice cram floats with a POP.  After each scoop of ice cream we added some rainbow Pop Rocks follow by some Sprite.

Watching their faces as they drank their float with hilarious!  We will definitely be making these fun floats again!

We had so much fun and our play date activities kept them all very busy as we waited oh so patiently for the fireworks that night.

Pirate Play Date

I have such a FUN {{Kid’s Corner Friday}} to share with you today…
My friend asked me if I would babysit her kids the other day….and of course I said…YES!!  I instantly knew I wanted to do something fun while they were here to make it an extra special day for them, my daughter and another one of my daughter’s friends.  Of course I cannot do anything small {{says my hubby}}, so I came up with a pirate play date!!
First we read these two amazing books {{the kids LOVED them}}

It was such a fun way to start off our pirate play date.
We then headed to the kitchen table to some coloring!  They each colored a pirate hat & a pirate eye patch to wear!

Next, they got a very special treasure map and the kids headed outside to get their ships for sailing around the back yard to find the treasure chest {{just like the book}}!

For the treasure map, I took a piece of cream construction paper, ripped the edges off, drew my map, burned the edges, and then of course…crumpled it up!  I then tied a red ribbon around it!
Sailing in their ships {{cardboard boxes that I cut the bottoms out of  & bent the front in half to look like a ship}}

We found the treasure chest…..

Now, how do we open it???

{{The treasure chest is a Kleenex blog covered in yellow construction paper, and then I drew on it to make it look like a treasure chest}}
Inside was a pirate treasure of CANDY…and MORE CANDY!!  What little pirate wouldn’t like candy?? (:

We then headed inside for lunch!
june 029
The kids LOVED their Pirate Map Pizza.  One of them even said “This is the best pizza I have ever had!”  Doesn’t that just make your day? (:
Of course, we had to have dessert as well…..

The Treasure Chest Cupcakes were a hit!  The little pirates gobbled them up!!!
After lunch the kids walked the plank {{sorry, I forgot to take pictures}}, but I just put a very long 2x4 out on the sidewalk, and they had to walk on it without touching the concrete…or the alligators would get them!
The kids had so much FUN!!  I can’t wait for the excuse to plan another super fun play date…..
