My friend asked me if I would babysit her kids the other day….and of course I said…YES!! I instantly knew I wanted to do something fun while they were here to make it an extra special day for them, my daughter and another one of my daughter’s friends. Of course I cannot do anything small {{says my hubby}}, so I came up with a pirate play date!!
First we read these two amazing books {{the kids LOVED them}}
It was such a fun way to start off our pirate play date.
We then headed to the kitchen table to some coloring! They each colored a pirate hat & a pirate eye patch to wear!
Next, they got a very special treasure map and the kids headed outside to get their ships for sailing around the back yard to find the treasure chest {{just like the book}}!
For the treasure map, I took a piece of cream construction paper, ripped the edges off, drew my map, burned the edges, and then of course…crumpled it up! I then tied a red ribbon around it!
Sailing in their ships {{cardboard boxes that I cut the bottoms out of & bent the front in half to look like a ship}}
We found the treasure chest…..
Now, how do we open it???
{{The treasure chest is a Kleenex blog covered in yellow construction paper, and then I drew on it to make it look like a treasure chest}}
Inside was a pirate treasure of CANDY…and MORE CANDY!! What little pirate wouldn’t like candy?? (:
We then headed inside for lunch!
The kids LOVED their Pirate Map Pizza. One of them even said “This is the best pizza I have ever had!” Doesn’t that just make your day? (: Of course, we had to have dessert as well…..
The Treasure Chest Cupcakes were a hit! The little pirates gobbled them up!!!
After lunch the kids walked the plank {{sorry, I forgot to take pictures}}, but I just put a very long 2x4 out on the sidewalk, and they had to walk on it without touching the concrete…or the alligators would get them!
The kids had so much FUN!! I can’t wait for the excuse to plan another super fun play date…..

This is just way too cute! The kids will be begging to come back, I'm sure. I'll have to do this for my grandblessings some time. Love, love the cupcakes!

This is so cute! I hope that I'm this creative when I have my own kids! I'm filing this idea away for in a few years :)
Ha Ha! You're gonna have every kid in the neighborhood wanting you to babysit them! :o) What a fun way to get them out of your hair! lol Kidding. Sort of. :o)
So fun! Loved the "ships." And the Kleenex box treasure chest. But my son and I have been reading the Ramona books and I immediately flashed to the scene where Ramona gives her neighbor a box of Kleenex and lets her pull out every one because that would be fun. That could have been treasure too. :)
There is just too much fun happening over there, we want to join in. Thanks for sharing.
