St. Patty’s Dinner

I had a church dinner that I went to tonight, so my hubby was in charge of dinner!  He asked our daughter what she wanted for dinner and he got her usual reply, “pancakes”.  So, because it is the day of all things green…this is what they ended up with for dinner (green waffles, green eggs & orange juice)!  I was so proud of his creation….part of me even wanted to miss my dinner and eat at home! Yummy!!!

Menu Board

new 063
I have been using an old dry erase board for my menu & decided it was time to upgrade.  Especially since my daughter loves to color on it with dry erase markers & accidently grabbed a permanent marker instead!  OOPS!
I have seen a lot of people use picture frames and put fabric behind the glass for color.  This was a very cute idea, but I didn’t want to have to spend the money on fabric.  So, I was at Hobby Lobby ***My favorite craft store*** and stumbled upon a 12x12 frame.  I instantly knew this was the perfect frame for my project, especially since scrapbook paper would fit perfectly behind it.
Supplies You Need:
  • 12x12 picture frame
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Vinyl (if desired)
  • Magnets (if desired)
new 058
This project is so simple, just put your desired piece of scrapbook paper behind the glass in your picture frame and you are done! I love the easy crafts! :)

I thought about just writing on the board with dry erase marker, but decided it would look even cuter with vinyl! **I buy all my vinyl from Expressions Vinyl, they are an amazing company to work with**
I cut my vinyl with my Cricut and my Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software, using black vinyl.
I hot glued magnets on the back so that it would stick to my refrigerator…

TaaDaa……it turned out so cute!  I even put St. Patrick’s paper behind the glass and plan on changing it to Easter colors as soon as April rolls around!

You could also just use this board as a board to write notes on….

St. Patrick’s Day Rice Crispie Treats

I always like to make festive treats for my kiddos.  This year I thought Rice Crispie Treats would be fun, but I gave them a fun GREEN twist for St. Patrick’s Day!  My plan was to cut them out with my shamrock cookie cutter, but it is MIA….so I just cut them into bars instead…they still taste the same, just not as fun! :)

I used green food coloring in my butter & marshmallow mixture & then we sprinkled green sprinkles on the top!  My daughter helped me make these & the sprinkles were her favorite part.  Not only did my Rice Crispie Treats get sprinkled, but the counter and floor got sprinkled as well! Smile

Pinwheels {St. Patrick’s Day Decorations}

I LOVE decorating for holidays!  St. Patrick’s Day is a fun reason to make everything GREEN!!!  I have seen so many pinwheel crafts out there lately & decided that I needed a table decoration for St. Patrick’s Day.  I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!  After St. Patrick’s Day, I might just make some more pinwheels in spring colors….oh the possibilities!

new 057

Supplies You Need:

  • Cute container (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
  • wooden dowels
  • ribbon
  • brads
  • scrapbook paper
  • scrapbook glue
  • beans
  • Hot Glue

Start out by making your pinwheels.  Pick 2 pieces of 12x12 scrapbook paper and glue together using scrapbook glue of any kind.  Let dry.

Cut your 12x12 paper into 4 equal squares.IMG_0816

Starting on each corner, cut towards the middle and stop when you get close to the middle of the square.

IMG_0817

Fold alternate corners towards the middle and secure with a brad.

Now that you have completed all 4 of your pinwheels, we will start on the dowels.

Fold the end of your ribbon over and hot glue to create an edge that won’t fray.  Hot glue to the top of your dowel at an angle and continue to wrap around dowel, gluing occasionally.

Glue pinwheel on with hot glue (Note: My pinwheels don’t move, which I am ok with since it is a table decoration)

Fill container with beans

Arrange pinwheels in your bucket to desired location!

Fabric Flower Headband

IMG_0898
Bring on the green!  With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, I think it’s time to accessorize my little one.  She had this simple green headband among her collection of hair bows.  Using some green fabric I had picked up, I made this simple green flower.
IMG_0881
Start by cutting out a felt circle that is about 1 – 1 1/2” across.  (I cut out several because I have plans to use them for an additional St. Patrick’s Day themed creation…that project is soon to come!).  Then, you’ll need to cut out a BUNCH of circles in the color of fabric you want your flower to be…..yeah green!  Note:  Your circles do not need to be perfect.  I cut eight circles out at a time to make the process go a little quicker.
IMG_0883
Then, scrunch up each individual circle and apply a small amount of hot glue to the end.
IMG_0884
Stick the scrunched circle to the middle of your felt circle.
IMG_0886
Continue with this process, adding more scrunched circles around your beginning center one.
IMG_0887
As you work your way away from the center, your flower will start to take place.
IMG_0888
Your finished product will completely cover the felt beneath it.  Now you’re ready to attach it to your headband.
IMG_0890IMG_0892
Just apply a small amount of hot glue to the center of the underside of the flower.  I applied the flower off to the side so that it wasn’t sitting directly on top of her head.  Once it dried, we had to try it out!

The true test will come this Thursday….will she she wear her Momma’s latest creation or will she scream, “No!” and rip it off?!?!  =)   Since she is quickly approaching 2, I’m guessing the latter.  Life with a feisty toddler definitely keeps me on my toes!
