DIY Glitter Toes

I have been hearing so many people talk lately about getting Glitter Toes done at their Salon or Beauty Parlor!  Maybe I am hiding under a rock or something…but I truly had no idea what Glitter Toes were!  However, when I saw them…..I fell in LOVE!  I absolutely love glitter….and on your toes…even better!  Sadly, a salon pedicure is not exactly in my budget….so I decided to do it myself! (:  Ok, I might have cheated slightly and asked a girl who does Glitter Toes for people in a salon what it entails…..and this is what I came up with {{my DIY version}}!

WARNING: This post contains pictures of my feet…and I HATE my feet, but you can’t get a detailed tutorial without pictures!  So….don’t say I didn’t warn you!!! (:

Supplies

glitter toes 008

  • Nail color similar to your glitter color {{base color}}
  • Clear Top Coat
  • Very fine glitter {{looks like dust}}
  • Small paint brush

Start by applying your base color to one nail at a time.  After you apply your base color on one nail, sprinkle your glitter over the nail polish while it is still wet.  {{If you do this over a piece of paper, you can save the extra and use it later}}

Once you have painted your base coat and applied the glitter to all of your toe nails, let it dry slightly.

Now, shake off any excess glitter onto your paper.

Use a dry paint brush to brush off any remaining glitter around your nails. {{Do not use the brush on your nails}}

Allow to dry well & apply your top coat twice, allowing to dry in-between each layer of top coat.

I seriously could not believe how easy it was!  I have had my nail polish on for 2 weeks now, and it has not chipped at all.  The glitter makes it pretty hard and tough!  I have gotten so many compliments on my toe nails!  Of course, I could not resist making my daughters toes glittery as well…and because I take pictures of EVERYTHING….we had to get a picture of her cute little Glitter Toes!

I hope you are enjoying your summer & your snazzy DIY Glitter Toes!

I was recently contacted by Creativity for Kids to review their Shrinky Dinks Monster Lab Kit (winner of The National Parenting Center’s Seal of Approval and FunFare – All Stars Award)!  My kiddos and I were beyond thrilled at the offer and Aiden checked daily to see if his “monster stuff” had arrived.
IMG_1708
As soon as the UPS man left our doorstep, we HAD to get started making monsters!  {It was all I could do to get them to pose for this picture!  And, in case you’re wondering, this is a half-hearted hug followed by a “Can we PLEASE get started yet?!?!” :) }  Gotta love their excitement!
IMG_1819
The kit included enough to keep my kids busy for days!  Love it!
Here is what was inside:
50+ precut Shrinky Dinks
chenille stems, wiggly eyes, brads, and more!
Faber-Castell color EcoPencils with sharpener
3-D Pop-Up Playscape
We loved how this kit included everything we could have possibly needed and there was plenty to go around!  My little ones jumped right in!  {This kit is for ages 7 and up, but my toddlers had a great time!}

IMG_1717
There were SO many Shrinky Dinks that we decided to save some for another day and moved on to the fun part…watching the monsters “shrink”!
IMG_1726
The shrinking process was a blast to watch as they curled, shrunk, and eventually flattened out all in about 2 minutes.  My little ones were enthralled!
IMG_1822
Once they were cooled, it was time to decorate the monsters!
IMG_1823
Now, to show off our creativity {yes…I got in on some coloring! (: }  With the 3-D Pop-Up laboratory {measures 16" x 7 3/4" x 6”} set up, my kiddos can now give their monsters a home!

Thank you Creativity for Kids for this amazing opportunity!  And to continue with their generosity, they are giving 2 Sweet Peas & Bumblebee readers the chance to win a Shrinky Dinks Monster Lab Kit of their own {a $19.99 value}!  This kit would make a great gift or an activity for those days when it’s not quite nice enough for the pool.

Do you remember the show “Cook Yourself Thin”?  Ok, I might have been slightly addicted to the show, and was devastated sad when it got canceled!  So, I picked myself up & wrote down some of my favorite recipes that I saw on their show! (:  This was one of them….

  • 4 whole wheat english muffins
  • 4 slices low-fat cheese
  • 4 slices ham
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 slices tomato
  • spritz of olive oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp. oregano
  • salt & pepper to taste

  • Preheat  your oven to 350 degrees.  Fill a large skillet with 4 inches of water.  Add vinegar and bring to a steady boil.

  • Cut 4 slices of tomato and spritz each side with olive oil.  Sauté over medium-high heat.  Sauté for 1 minute on each side.  Season with salt, pepper and oregano.breakfast sandwich 002
  • Poach eggs in vinegar water.  Transfer to a plate with a paper towel to drain.
  • Remove Muffin halves from oven.  Place tomato and egg on each.  Season with salt and pepper.

These are seriously DELICOUS and good for you!  The shreds of ham make you think your getting a lot of ham….even though you aren’t…..tricky tricky!!  I hope you enjoy these as much as we do at our house!

Pirate Play Date

I have such a FUN {{Kid’s Corner Friday}} to share with you today…
My friend asked me if I would babysit her kids the other day….and of course I said…YES!!  I instantly knew I wanted to do something fun while they were here to make it an extra special day for them, my daughter and another one of my daughter’s friends.  Of course I cannot do anything small {{says my hubby}}, so I came up with a pirate play date!!
First we read these two amazing books {{the kids LOVED them}}
imageimage
It was such a fun way to start off our pirate play date.
We then headed to the kitchen table to some coloring!  They each colored a pirate hat & a pirate eye patch to wear!
june 019
june 020
Next, they got a very special treasure map and the kids headed outside to get their ships for sailing around the back yard to find the treasure chest {{just like the book}}!
june 005
june 004
For the treasure map, I took a piece of cream construction paper, ripped the edges off, drew my map, burned the edges, and then of course…crumpled it up!  I then tied a red ribbon around it!
Sailing in their ships {{cardboard boxes that I cut the bottoms out of  & bent the front in half to look like a ship}}
june 021
june 022
june 025
We found the treasure chest…..
june 026
Now, how do we open it???
june 027
{{The treasure chest is a Kleenex blog covered in yellow construction paper, and then I drew on it to make it look like a treasure chest}}
Inside was a pirate treasure of CANDY…and MORE CANDY!!  What little pirate wouldn’t like candy?? (:
june 028
We then headed inside for lunch!
june 029
The kids LOVED their Pirate Map Pizza.  One of them even said “This is the best pizza I have ever had!”  Doesn’t that just make your day? (:
Of course, we had to have dessert as well…..
june 017
The Treasure Chest Cupcakes were a hit!  The little pirates gobbled them up!!!
After lunch the kids walked the plank {{sorry, I forgot to take pictures}}, but I just put a very long 2x4 out on the sidewalk, and they had to walk on it without touching the concrete…or the alligators would get them!
The kids had so much FUN!!  I can’t wait for the excuse to plan another super fun play date…..

Garden Stake Flag

IMG_1774

I absolutely LOVE 4th of July décor!  So when a friend gave me some extra garden stakes she had, I immediately saw a flag in their future!

IMG_1524

See…don’t you immediately think flag?!!? (:  To complete this project, I used a total of 11 garden stakes.

IMG_1525

Before painting could begin, these stakes needed to be cleaned off.  Lucky for me I have a little one who LOVES to play with the hose and was more than happy to help out his Momma!  {{Well, he tried.  After about 5 minutes of hard work I found him making mud puddles in the sandbox instead! (: }}

IMG_1701

Using masking tape, start by marking off where you wanted your square of blue to be.  Now, {finally} it’s time to start painting!!!  {{Do you ever feel like the prep work takes SO MUCH longer than the actual project!?!}

IMG_1704

Using a foam paintbrush {or paintbrush}, paint each of your stakes.  {I used Folk Art acrylic paint.}

IMG_1706

Colors I used:  Red:  Apple Red, Blue:  Brilliant Ultramarine, White:  Wicker White}.  Paint a single coat of paint and once dry, move your masking tape so you can paint the additional colors.

IMG_1730

Once all of the paint is dry, it’s time to put all of the pieces together.  I enlisted my hubby’s help.  We used a combination of wood glue between the stakes and also a nail gun to attach the pieces together.  To ensure that it stayed together while drying, my hubby dug out his wood working clamps.

IMG_1732

Let it dry overnight to ensure that is secure.  Now take your handy power sander and go to town!  Distress the paint as little or as much as you like.  Wipe off the dust and add some distressing ink to the edges.

For the star, I just found one I liked online and drew it by hand on an off-white cardstock.  After it is cut out, distress all of the edges using distress ink.

Mod Podge the star in place and you’re finished!  I LOVE how it turned out and will be displaying it WAY longer than through the holiday! (:  What’s most impressive about this project??!  I actually finished it with time to spare before the actual holiday…yipee! (:
